About

Established in July 2022, the Rural Health Research Network (RHRN) is building an academic research community for interdisciplinary rural health academics and higher-degree students living and working in rural communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

RHRN is an initiative of the Rural Health Section and Ngāi Tahu Māori Health Research Unit.

We aim to create an outstanding virtual academic research environment, and to ensure the University’s social responsibility for Aotearoa New Zealand’s rural communities is addressed, especially for rural Māori and Pacific peoples.

The RHRN facilitates communication and cooperation between rural and urban researchers at the University. Through the Ngāi Tahu Māori Health Research Unit we support rurally-based Māori health researchers and connect them with campus-based Māori academics.  The RHRN is connected to Pacific researchers through existing relationships with Va’a o Tautai Centre for Pacific Health.

As we grow we intend to create opportunities for knowledge-sharing, training, and collaborative research with external academics, other rural health entities, and rural communities.
